We believe that good habits to maintain oral health should be established at an early age. Frequently, we will be giving advice to parents before the birth of their child. After birth, we encourage children to attend from an early age, to allow them to get used to the dentist, the staff and the surroundings.

Regular attendance enables us to answer parents' questions about diet and tooth brushing for their children. Getting used to the dentist with regular visits when no treatment is needed, means that if the worse happens – a fall from a bike, even a decayed tooth – the child has confidence in those who will be treating him or her. Treatment in those circumstances is less stressful for child and parent (and the dentist!)

As the permanent teeth come through from age 6, we can offer advice on the necessity for fissure sealants or potential orthodontic problems.

We understand that there always seems to be more important things to do than clean your teeth. Things like that extra 10 minutes in bed in the morning or checking to see who’s online on MSN, text your mates or download some tunes. But hang on a minute, no tooth brushing and what happens? Yes, that bit of gherkin from your last Big Mac, or that piece of lettuce from your chicken sandwich is sure to stick around your front teeth. And then what? Embarrassment! Or even worse, bad breath!

Looking after your teeth is important. It’s important for your smile, and your self esteem and your comfort.

Here at the Eversley Road Dental Practice, we can help you with this stuff. We can point out where you are brushing really well, and help you with the really difficult bits to get at, like when your wisdom teeth come through. We can spot potential problems early when you come for a regular check up. We can tell you when you can eat a Mars bar and when it’s best to avoid them – and we can definitely help you avoid those blush-making lettuce and gherkin moments!
