Increasing numbers of people are reaching retirement age with
their own teeth and we have a particular interest in helping people
keep their mouths healthy into old age.
Specific problems include heavily restored teeth, which, with increasing
age, become more brittle and more liable to fracture. Gum recession
over a life time exposes the roots of the teeth and these are prone
to decay, giving particular difficulties in filling these teeth.
Medication can sometimes affect the mouth and its comfort, particularly
if a side effect of the tablets is to reduce the flow of saliva
causing a dry mouth. Dentures can become difficult to manage.
All of these difficulties are surmountable, and in many cases,
preventable. Root decay is preventable with good oral hygiene and
fluoride supplements. Broken teeth can often be repaired simply
with modern, adhesive filling materials. Replacement well designed
and well fitting dentures can often improve the comfort of the mouth.
Indeed, increasing age is not a reason to discount implants or bridgework
as possibilities for replacing missing teeth.
We believe that regular contact with the dentist and/or the hygienist,
can help patients to keep their mouths healthy and comfortable.
A comfortable, pain free mouth increases the possibility of a good,
balanced diet and consequently, contributes to overall well-being.
For those unable to come into the practice, we offer a domiciliary
service, but the treatment available is sometimes limited. Click
