The health of your mouth remains important throughout life .
As one progresses from teenage to twenties and thirties, dietary
habits become more stable and dental caries – holes in your teeth
– should become less likely. However, gum problems can begin and
maintaining good oral hygiene is essential if gum problems are to
be avoided.
We can offer regular 15 point examination appointments with the
dentist, when not only your teeth and gums, but the soft tissues
of your mouth and lips and other structures around your mouth will
be checked. A written report will be provided for you at the completion
of each oral health assessment.
We also offer regular appointments with our hygienists. Plaque
control is important for the prevention of gum disease and the hygienist
can show you techniques to help to reach those difficult places
to clean.
If you have any concerns about the appearance of your teeth, we
can offer tooth whitening – that important wedding coming up maybe?
– or sometimes something as simple as adjusting the shape of teeth
with some adhesive composite materials can enhance your smile. Even
replacing old, discoloured fillings can help to improve the appearance
of your teeth.
Missing teeth can be restored with implants or sometimes adhesive
bridgework. And if you have a denture, we can discuss with you the
alternatives that might be available..
We do believe that your tooth structure is important and we will
do all we can to keep that for you, rather than attacking it with
drills, if we can avoid it.
Mouth cancer is rare but not unknown in this age group, particularly
in some high risk groups of people. Mouth cancer in its early stages
is usually symptomless – you will not know its there – but early
diagnosis at a check-up appointment can aid early diagnosis and
treatment.
